‘The talking deck’
During one swalkeling trip in central London, I found a single discarded Tarot fire card in the street and soon after a Unicorn card. It made me think about card packs, the chance of the card and the decision of what to do with it as self-determination. I decided to create an anti-tarot card game inspired by these finds. This is a game that will not predict your future, but it will give you a conversation piece for the present. Each card is designed using random content, much of which was found on my swalkeling journeys.
The rules; the dealer allows no more than three cards to each participant, the recipient tells the dealer what it means to them, it is a game of chance and self-determination in 24 cards. All made to create a conversation about YOUR present !!!Presented here for
Currently on display at Badger and Badger are three of my talking deck cards;
TRUTH – inspired by a Unicorn card found in the street and the requests in parliament for ‘no more Unicorns’ during the Brexit debate.
NATION - a found map of the UK and Ireland and presented in a sea of cosmic waves, as seen in the work of the 19th century Indian artist Bulaki, in the show ‘The Garden and the Cosmos’ at the British Museum.
IDENTITY – after finding beetle on route, I drew a whole presentation case of this species found at the Horniman Museum collection.
